Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Senior Systems Engineer to join our client’s team in Pleasanton, CA. This role requires hands-on expertise in VMware, enterprise storage technologies, and infrastructure automation. The candidate will be responsible for managing infrastructure components, optimizing storage solutions, leading technical projects, and ensuring system security and stability.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in infrastructure/systems engineering.
  • Strong experience in deploying, upgrading, and managing VMware components (vSphere, NSX, ESX, vCenter, VEEAM, Platform Service Controller, etc.).
  • Experience configuring fabric-based compute platforms such as Cisco UCS.
  • Hands-on experience with modern enterprise storage technologies (NetApp, EMC).
  • General understanding of geo-replication of data and Fiber Channel zoning.
  • Knowledge of PowerShell, PowerCLI, and/or other object-oriented scripting languages.
  • Basic understanding of DevOps practices.
  • Experience in storage integration, data communications/networking, and security implementations.
  • Ability to design, build, and configure enterprise storage arrays from the ground up.
  • Strong knowledge of system migrations between storage and compute technologies.
  • Experience with enterprise backups, security frameworks, and system performance optimization.
  • Ability to work in a geographically diverse business environment and collaborate with teams across multiple locations.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact at multiple levels within the organization.

Preferred Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with cloud infrastructure and security frameworks.
  • Advanced scripting skills for automation and configuration management.
  • Knowledge of IT security best practices and compliance frameworks.
  • Experience leading infrastructure modernization and optimization projects.

Responsibilities

Infrastructure Engineering & Support

  • Lead infrastructure core service engineering and product lifecycle management.
  • Install, maintain, and optimize on-premises infrastructure (virtualization, storage, compute platforms).
  • Work with IT security teams to assess, manage, and remediate vulnerabilities.
  • Assist in troubleshooting hardware, operating systems, and application layer products.
  • Provide general support for cloud infrastructure as needed.

Project Management & Technical Leadership

  • Lead the technical portions of projects and proof of concepts (POCs).
  • Develop detailed implementation, testing, and roll-back procedures.
  • Coordinate infrastructure security assessments with internal teams.
  • Validate and continuously improve technical documentation and design patterns.
  • Manage automation projects, implementing effective solutions to improve efficiency.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Self-directed coordination of implementation projects, documentation, and team training.
  • Work with business partners, engineers, and vendors to ensure smooth infrastructure operations.
  • Participate in on-call rotation and provide emergency response support as needed.

Education & Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (required).
  • Relevant industry certifications (VMware, Cisco, NetApp, etc.) are a plus.
