Scope of Services:
The Material Manager will develop and implement strategies for the efficient procurement, storage, and distribution of materials used in electrical projects. This role involves identifying process improvements, leveraging technology to manage inventory, and collaborating with Project Managers, Engineers, and other stakeholders to forecast material needs. Responsibilities include coordinating logistics for timely delivery of materials, maintaining inventory levels, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards. The Material Manager will also manage vendor relationships, negotiate pricing, and provide reporting and updates to executive leadership. This hybrid position requires onsite presence in Valparaiso, IN, three days a week, with remote work on Mondays and Fridays.

 
Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement strategies for the efficient procurement, storage, and distribution of materials used in electrical projects.
  • Look for efficiencies in process and procedure and actively work with stakeholders to drive solutions.
  • Solve problems at your level.
  • Leverage technology to help collect, track, organize, analyze and report out on inventory levels.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers/Construction Managers, Engineers, and other stakeholders to forecast material needs for ongoing and upcoming projects.
  • Coordinate with logistics and transportation providers to facilitate timely delivery of materials to project sites. As well as returned material to either other projects or staging/storerooms.
  • Maintain tracking of material/conex location on job laydown sites and maintain/organize staging area material.
  • Work with Supply Chain on sourcing events for materials from suppliers, assist with negotiating pricing, and review supplier contracts to ensure cost-effectiveness and quality.
  • Oversee receiving, inspection, and storage processes to ensure compliance with safety, quality standards and regulations.
  • Maintain, organize inventory levels packaged in conex boxes and track material usage to prevent shortages or excess stock during project execution, at project close-out, and/or for project-to-project transfers, utilizing inventory management software or available tools.
  • Travel to job sites to inspect conex box and material setups, looking for improvements or deficiencies with how labor crews are managing usage of materials during execution. Work with Construction Manager on corrective actions.
  • Develop, maintain, and provide required reporting for tracking and status, and provide executive updates as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with Project Managers, Construction Managers, and Leadership when issues, concerns or opportunities arise.
  • Meet with vendors/distributors to discuss unacceptable and defective products and establish corrective actions.
  • Work with Storeroom Management if union labor isn’t maintaining our expectations at our project facilities they support.
  • Monitor and analyze market trends, supplier performance, and industry developments to identify opportunities for cost savings and process improvements.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key suppliers and vendors, fostering partnerships for long-term mutual benefit and efficiency gains.
  • Implement best practices for material handling, storage, and disposal to minimize waste and maximize efficiency.

 
Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in material management, procurement, or supply chain roles within the electrical industry (5+ years).
  • Electrical construction experience (5+ years).
  • Strong knowledge of electrical/civil materials, components, and equipment.
  • Strong proficiency in inventory management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data and make informed decisions.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements and safety standards related to material handling and storage in the electrical industry.
  • Work with Construction Team to obtain accurate information when safety events occur and issue timely Safety Incident reports.
