Job Title: EHS Technician | EHS Specialist
Location: Plano, TX – onsite – local candidates only
Period: 08/05/2024 to 01/31/2025 – possibility of extension
Hours/Week: 40 hours – hours over 40 will be paid at time and a half
Rate: $25 – $30/hour
Contract Type: W-2 only

 
Scope of Services:

The Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Technician will support the EHS team in ensuring the well-being of employees and promoting a safe and sustainable work environment. The primary responsibility of the EHS Technician will be to support the development, implementation, and maintenance of EHS/EMS programs within the organization. This position requires a strong understanding of applicable regulations and standards, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to provide guidance and training to employees at all levels. The EHS function concerns itself with the health and safety of the plant employees through the prevention of accidents, illnesses, and injuries, as well as the protection of the environment. Included in the EHS function are fire safety, employee health, industrial hygiene, security, and environmental protection.

 
Role, Responsibilities, and Deliverables:

Program Management:

  • Assist in the development, implementation, and management of comprehensive EHS programs to ensure compliance with internal and external standards.
  • Support ISO 14001 certification process and its maintenance. Responsible for assigned duties and tasks as defined by the EMS.
  • Coordinate and oversee EHS documents, SOPs, Work Instructions, and forms. Coordinate the development, update, peer review, and approval of all EHS documentation.
  • Conduct regular audits, inspections, and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and areas for improvement.
  • Monitor program effectiveness and recommend enhancements to drive continuous improvement.

Training and Education:

  • Coordinate and deliver EHS training programs, including new hire orientations, specialized training sessions, and refresher courses.
  • Educate employees on proper safety practices, emergency response protocols, and environmental awareness.
  • Provide guidance and support to supervisors and managers in implementing safety initiatives and fostering a safety-conscious culture.

Compliance and Reporting:

  • Stay up-to-date with relevant EHS regulations, guidelines, and industry best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, permits, and reporting requirements.
  • Prepare, analyze, and submit reports on EHS performance, incidents, and metrics.
  • Assist with incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation.
  • In support of global EHS processes, be the point of contact for site EHS data, reviews, and maintains SDS data system inventory, monthly Envision entry, etc.

Hazard Identification and Risk Management:

  • Conduct risk assessments and hazard evaluations to identify potential workplace hazards.
  • Develop and implement controls and preventive measures to mitigate identified risks.
  • Collaborate with operations, engineering, and quality teams to ensure the integration of safety controls into work processes and equipment design.

Employee Engagement and Communication:

  • Foster a positive EHS culture by promoting employee engagement, participation, and accountability.
  • Communicate EHS policies, procedures, and updates effectively to employees at all levels.
  • Act as a resource for EHS-related inquiries, concerns, and suggestions from employees.

 
Additional Responsibilities:

  • Assist with accident/incident investigation.
  • Maintain files and records pertaining to environmental, safety, and industrial hygiene.
  • Assist with the plant safety committee.
  • Assist management/supervisors/training technicians in preparing a variety of EHS presentations.
  • Keep informed on current environmental, health, and safety regulations and legislation and recommend policy changes.
  • Conduct frequent EHS tours/audits of all plant areas and make recommendations for corrective actions for all environmental, safety, and health problems noted.
  • Review the installation and modification of all equipment/processes for EHS issues.
  • Responsible for the training and coordination of the Emergency Response Team.
  • Maintain the plant fire protection system.
  • Assist with maintaining the plant EH&S database.
  • Conduct a variety of EHS training including Lockout/Tagout, Confined Space Entry, and timely environmental training.
  • Monitor contractor compliance with various applicable EHS laws and standards.
  • Assist Employee Health in a variety of functions such as dosimetry, audiometric testing, and training.
  • Conduct new hire EHS orientations.
  • Complete various environmental reports in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for a variety of timely environmental projects.
  • Assist with the improvement of the plant's recycling efforts.
  • Assist with a variety of activities aimed at maintaining compliance with the plant's various environmental permits.

 
Experience:

  • Education and/or Experience: B.S. Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or related field. M.S preferred or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in the Health and Safety field with both hands-on and program management experience.
  • Ability to navigate and interpret EHS regulations.
  • Expected to function with little direction and be able to independently drive complex projects to completion.
  • Mastery of the technical skills necessary to perform traditional EHS duties but at a higher, more independent level.
  • Background with Fire Department or Rescue squad would be preferred for the technician focused on the safety area.
  • Experience with spreadsheets and algebra preferred.
  • Adept at using a computer.
  • Knowledge of applicable regulatory standards and requirements for infant formula and nutritionals, as well as MIOSHA, OSHA, DOT, EPA, MDEQ, etc.
