Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Project Scheduler to support major project planning, scheduling, project controls, and schedule performance management at the R.M. Schahfer Generating Station in Wheatfield, IN. This role will be responsible for developing, maintaining, analyzing, and reporting on project schedules using Primavera P6, while supporting integrated project scope, schedule, cost, risk, and quality management.

The Project Scheduler will work closely with project managers, project controls leadership, contractors, plant stakeholders, and other project team members to establish and maintain reliable schedule baselines, monitor schedule performance, identify risks and variances, and recommend corrective, preventive, and predictive actions. This role requires strong P6 proficiency, schedule analysis experience, project controls knowledge, and the ability to communicate schedule impacts clearly to stakeholders.

The ideal candidate has experience in large industrial, construction, engineering, capital project, utility, or power generation environments and can support schedule development, schedule hierarchy, schedule progress updates, contract schedule reviews, reporting, and integrated cost/schedule forecasting.

Key Responsibilities

Project Schedule Development & Maintenance

  • Develop, maintain, and update project schedules using Primavera P6.

  • Build schedule structures, logic, milestones, activities, dependencies, durations, calendars, and schedule hierarchies.

  • Support creation and maintenance of integrated project baselines used to measure project performance.

  • Tailor schedule management processes, tools, and techniques to support project needs.

  • Ensure project schedules align with scope, cost, risk, quality, contract requirements, and project execution strategies.

  • Maintain schedule data integrity through controlled updates, review processes, and consistent use of scheduling standards.

Schedule Analysis & Forecasting

  • Analyze schedule performance, progress, critical path, float, constraints, schedule variance, and milestone performance.

  • Forecast schedule performance and identify opportunities to avoid negative schedule variances.

  • Apply schedule assessment methods, tools, and techniques to identify risks, delays, and opportunities.

  • Incorporate corrective, preventive, and predictive actions into project schedules.

  • Support path-forward planning, workaround strategies, contingency planning, resource requirements, and schedule recovery activities.

  • Provide schedule analysis that improves predictability, accuracy, flexibility, and precision throughout the project lifecycle.

Integrated Project Controls Support

  • Apply project controls expertise across schedule, cost, scope, risk, and quality management.

  • Support integrated cost and schedule forecasting using quantitative risk management tools and techniques, including Expected Monetary Value and Sensitivity Analysis.

  • Help project teams better predict schedule and cost performance and enable timely corrective, preventive, and predictive action.

  • Support integrated project baselines that provide visibility into project performance and risk exposure.

  • Apply cost-of-quality concepts to schedule development, monitoring, and control activities.

  • Promote a project integration mindset across people, processes, tools, and techniques.

Risk, Quality & Performance Management

  • Apply objective risk management practices to project baselines and schedule management processes.

  • Integrate risk response planning, quality considerations, and schedule performance analysis to support better project outcomes.

  • Identify schedule risks, quality impacts, performance concerns, and schedule recovery opportunities.

  • Support proactive implementation of predictive schedule actions and improvement opportunities.

  • Use risk and quality management tools and techniques to improve project planning, schedule control, and decision-making.

Contract Schedule Review & Commercial Support

  • Support contract commercial management through contract performance assessment, schedule review, and schedule performance reporting.

  • Review contract schedules relative to contract scope, milestone requirements, and project execution expectations.

  • Conduct initial contract schedule assessment, analysis, change management forecasting, and performance review.

  • Make recommendations to the project management team, Project Manager, and Project Scheduling / Project Controls leadership.

  • Support contract change management activities by analyzing schedule impacts, delay risks, and project performance implications.

Reporting & Stakeholder Communication

  • Prepare standard, advanced, and special project schedule reports for project stakeholders.

  • Compile and produce schedule reports as needed to support leadership, project team, and stakeholder decision-making.

  • Communicate schedule status, risks, variances, recommendations, and corrective actions clearly and proactively.

  • Utilize communication skills to support effective project schedule decision-making.

  • Engage stakeholders through listening, clear articulation, written updates, messaging, and proactive stakeholder management.

  • Serve as a schedule subject matter expert for project managers, major project leaders, directors, and relevant stakeholders.

Standards, Guidelines & Continuous Improvement

  • Manage project schedules in accordance with industry standards, project management guidelines, project controls standards, and scheduling best practices.

  • Review and coordinate the use of project management guidelines, standards, processes, job aids, and tools.

  • Support development and improvement of schedule management tools, processes, reporting methods, and techniques.

  • Integrate project management subsidiary systems to improve project performance.

  • Drive continuous lifecycle planning and scheduling processes with progressive risk-based forecasting.

  • Support continuous improvement in schedule quality, forecasting accuracy, reporting, and project controls maturity.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Develop, update, and maintain project schedules in Primavera P6.

  • Review schedule progress, activity status, dependencies, milestones, and critical path.

  • Coordinate with project managers, contractors, plant stakeholders, and project controls teams to gather schedule updates.

  • Analyze schedule variance, risks, delays, and opportunities for recovery or improvement.

  • Prepare schedule reports, dashboards, updates, and stakeholder communications.

  • Review contractor schedules and assess performance against scope and schedule requirements.

  • Support integrated cost and schedule forecasting activities.

  • Participate in project meetings, schedule reviews, risk discussions, and planning sessions.

  • Travel to other plant locations as needed for meetings and scheduling support.

  • Support corrective, preventive, and predictive schedule actions to improve project outcomes.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma and 4+ years of experience working as a scheduler; or

  • High school diploma and 6+ years of construction or engineering experience, including 2+ years working as a project scheduler; or

  • Bachelor’s degree and 4+ years of experience working as a project scheduler.

  • High degree of proficiency using Primavera P6 scheduling software.

  • Strong spreadsheet development, utilization, and controlled data manipulation skills.

  • Integrated knowledge of project scope, schedule, cost, risk, and quality management.

  • Strong understanding of project planning and scheduling guidelines, standards, processes, and job aids.

  • Experience developing, assessing, analyzing, progressing, and maintaining project schedules.

  • Strong comprehension and application of project management subsidiary guidelines, standards, processes, and tools.

  • Proficiency in risk and quality management tools and techniques.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with project stakeholders through written, verbal, and presentation-based communication.

  • Strong stakeholder management, listening, conflict resolution, teamwork, and team-building skills.

  • Ability to support schedule decision-making through analysis, reporting, and proactive communication.

  • Bachelor’s degree and 4+ years of experience as a project scheduler.

  • Strong schedule database proficiency and ability to develop, maintain, and analyze schedule data.

  • Experience in large industrial, capital project, construction, engineering, utility, or power generation environments.
